Bio

Matthew Geiling is an attorney with a focus on immigration issues and solutions. He defends clients from deportation in immigration courts around the country, and represents individuals applying for immigration benefits before the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services and the U.S. State Department. He is admitted to practice law in New York, Florida, and in immigration courts in all 50 states. Matthew is an associate at the Sekou Clarke Law Group, and a founding member of the immigration legal team at LifeWorks Community Action, Inc., a non-profit organization in Ballston Spa, New York.

Matthew became an attorney after a decade in agriculture and agribusiness, including several years living and working with H-2A farm workers in New York and Jamaica. Matthew has collaborated with national leaders in response to international humanitarian crises. With New York Law School’s Professor of Immigration Law, Lenni Benson, he developed systems to aid arriving Afghan nationals following the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. With Attorneys for Good Government, Ballard Spahr PLLC., and the Justice Center at Albany Law School, he remotely represented refugees seeking asylum in “tent courts” established along the U.S. southern border under the first Trump administration.

Matthew graduated with honors from Albany Law School, and from the State University of New York at Albany, after studying international affairs at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. At Albany Law School, he was an executive editor of Dr. Vincent Bonventre’s independent journal “International Law Studies,” and a co-founder of the school’s “Immigration Law Society.” In 2020, he was named “Arthur J. Harvey Civil Liberties Fellow,” and defended New Yorkers against discrimination in employment and housing with the New York State Division of Human Rights. Matthew is the co-author of “Immigration: Key to the Future, the benefits of Resettlement to Upstate New York.” Matthew was recently featured in publications including “New York Focus,” and the “Times-Union,” and often speaks publicly on immigration issues and solutions at places of worship in New York and Florida. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
