What Are Removal Proceedings?
Removal proceedings are also what is known as the deportation process. Removal proceedings begin once an individual receives a Notice to Appear (NTA). This notice explains why the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement believes they have entered the United States without authorization.
In the next 1 - 4 weeks, a notice from immigration court will arrive which contains details regarding the master calendar hearing. If you happen to receive this notice, it is very important to remember the date and time of your hearing. It may take place several months or a year after you receive the NTA. If you miss the hearing, you will be issued an automatic order of removal and you may not be able to return to the United States for 10 years.
After the master calendar hearing, the immigration court will schedule a merits hearing in which you must defend yourself against the removal. These can last up to 4 hours or several days. It is advisable to have a skilled deportation attorney by your side to help you strategize against the attorney for the Department of Homeland Security. You are allowed to present witnesses, evidence, and any experts who are relevant to your case during this time.
If your case is pending in the Orlando Immigration Court or another immigration court in Florida or New York, we can help you gather documents, prepare testimony, and understand how the judge will evaluate your history, family ties, and any prior criminal charges. We also walk you through what to expect at each hearing, from check-in procedures at the courthouse to how to address the immigration judge, so you feel more prepared and confident when your day in court arrives.

Local Deportation Defense Support in Florida and New York
In Florida and New York, the threat of deportation can be particularly daunting, especially for those who have built their lives in these vibrant communities. Local resources, such as the Florida Immigrant Coalition and the New York Immigration Coalition, provide essential support and information for individuals facing removal proceedings. These organizations can help you understand your rights and connect you with vital resources in your area.
Residents of cities like Orlando and New York City often experience unique challenges when it comes to immigration issues. The diverse populations in these areas mean that many individuals may be navigating complex family situations, employment concerns, or community ties that make deportation especially distressing. The Sekou Clarke Law Group recognizes these pain points and is dedicated to providing compassionate and knowledgeable legal assistance tailored to your specific circumstances.
For many clients, questions arise about where their hearings will take place, how to travel to court, and what local rules might apply. In the Orlando area, for example, hearings are often scheduled at the immigration court that serves Central Florida, while New York residents may need to appear at a court in Manhattan or another borough depending on where they live. We help you understand which court has authority over your case, how to plan for your appearance, and what local procedures you should follow from the moment you receive your notice until your case is resolved.
Florida and New York have various programs aimed at supporting immigrants, as well as a network of legal aid services to assist those facing deportation. However, the complexities of immigration law can still be overwhelming. It’s essential to have a dedicated deportation defense attorney by your side to help you navigate these challenges.
Whether you are in Orlando, Miami, or New York City, The Sekou Clarke Law Group is here to help you fight for your right to remain in the U.S. We understand the local nuances and are committed to standing by your side.
Types Of Relief In Orlando Deportation Cases
When you are placed in removal proceedings, one of the most important questions is what forms of relief may be available to help you stay in the United States. Depending on your history and ties to the community, options can include applications such as asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status based on a family relationship, or certain waivers for past immigration violations. We carefully review your background, including how and when you entered the country, any prior applications you have filed, and your family’s immigration status, to determine which paths may be realistically available in your situation.
Relief options are especially important in Orlando because many immigrants have long-standing ties to local employers, churches, and schools, and those relationships can sometimes be used to show hardship or positive contributions to the community. For example, if you have children who are U.S. citizens attending school in Orange County, or if you have lived and worked in Central Florida for many years, those facts may be relevant to certain forms of relief. We also pay close attention to how decisions from immigration courts in Florida and New York may impact your case strategy, so that we present the strongest possible arguments for you and your family.
